Teens. They are what they are and there’s really no easy way
to change them. For most of us, we just have to let the young adult phase run
its course. You know what I mean. You were s teenager once. Were you the perfect son or daughter? Did you do everything right? The answer is
probably “no” and that’s okay. That’s what being a teen is about. But what
about today’s teens?
Depending on how old you are, you may have noticed that the
world is a whole lot different than when you were a teen. For me, it’s
monumental. Especially when it comes to negative influences. Yes, there’s still
you’re good old-fashioned peer pressure. There are still underage drinkers and
smokers. And illegal drug use continues. But, the way some of these things are
introduced to your teen is so different—and you have the Internet to thank for
that.
The Internet: it just didn’t exist when I was a teenager.
Now, it is ubiquitous, perpetual and easily accessible. You’re teenager carries
it with them wherever they go. Sure, it’s great. Miraculous in fact! Your kids
can view anything, buy anything, listen to anything and communicate with anyone
anytime and anywhere—and in so many different ways. But that can also be bad.
The Internet is distracting. Social media, music videos,
movies, books, texts, emails, calls, photos—all tempt your kids away from work,
play and life in general. Living on the Internet is a difficult habit to break
them of. The Internet, for many, is their world—and they’ll do anything to
protect it.
If you tried to take your teen’s phone away, they would have
a fit and you would be fighting a never-ending battle. But what can you do if
your teen is so distracted that they’re slipping in school, driving dangerously
or shrinking from family or society in general? How do you check up on them
when they either hide their phone from you or delete everything so that you
can’t check up on them? And how can you find them if they take off every time you
try to reprimand them?
Many parents choose to sit their child down and have a good
talk—and you should too. Explain your concerns and tell them that what they are
doing and how they are feeling is normal. Remind them that you were a teen
once.
Another thing that many parent are doing is a bit
unorthodox, but it really works—especially if you have a sneaky teen who hides
everything from you. What these parents are doing is installing a free spy on cell phones software but a one-time subscription is much better.
A good worry free spy gear for cell phones surveillance app can let you know if your teen
is messing with drugs online, sexting other teens or older individuals, being
bullied on social media, sending suggestive selfies, or receiving sextortion emails.
It can even tell you where your teen is via GPS as well as let you take a
picture with their phone’s camera and
listen to their surroundings with their
microphone. And FYI, you can recover anything they’ve deleted as well.
